This converter changes copper Ethernet to singlemode fiber and back, extending a 10/100/1000 Mbps link up to 20 km (12.4 miles). Since Cat5e/6 tops out at 100 meters, it is the better way to reach a remote part of a facility, campus or branch office, or to link workstations to a switch in another building.
Automatic speed sensing, full/half duplex auto-detection and auto MDI/MDI-X keep setup simple, and six LEDs show Ethernet and fiber link status. Two converters are needed per link: SC singlemode fiber (such as Tripp Lite N356 Series, sold separately) joins them, and Cat5e/6 copper (such as N201 Series) connects each one to your devices.
The compact metal unit needs no software or drivers and runs on the included AC power supply, which comes with plug adapters for North America, the UK, Europe and Australia.
