The HPE 631670-B21 is a Smart Array P420 RAID controller with 1GB of flash backed write cache (FBWC), built for HPE ProLiant Gen8 servers. It is a low profile PCIe 3.0 card with two internal ports for 6Gb/s SAS and SATA drives.

- Up to 240 TB of storage using HPE 4TB 6G SAS 7.2K LFF drives (the real limit varies by server)
- Up to 64 logical volumes when fitted with 512MB or more of cache
- HPE SSD Smart Path speeds up SSD reads at every RAID level and RAID 0 writes, by up to 4x
- Up to 3x the performance of the previous generation, using up to 2GB of DDR3-1333 cache
- Predictive spare activation for faster rebuilds
- Supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 on SAS or SATA drives, with transfer rates up to 6Gb/s
